Emotional Strengthening Talks with The Families Of Children In Need Of Special Education In Şanlıurfa

Families of children who developed differently and need special education gathered within the scope of "Emotional Strengthening Talks” during the pandemic.

Emotional Strengthening Talks, organised in the scope of “Social Cohesion between Syrian and Host Communities through Women’s Empowerment Project” implemented by GAP Regional Development Agency (GAP RDA) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Turkey with the support of  "Mummy Brain Builders (Geleceğe Dokunan Anneler - GEDA), gathered families of children who are affected the most by the pandemic and need special education in the South-eastern Anatolia, to provide them psychosocial support.

In the webinar where families of children who need special education in Şanlıurfa’s Suruç district came together, the topics that families need information about the most were discussed. 50 parents, including mothers and fathers, attended the seminar. In this context, taking the effects of the pandemic and the increased anxiety caused by the process into consideration, the participants were informed about increasing emotional resilience in children with special education needs, emotional neglect and abuse of children, disability rights and related state support, and questions coming from the families were answered.

A Short Breathing Exercise Break for Families with Musician Sonat Bağcan

At the end of the seminar, body and breath relaxation practices were carried out for families under the guidance of Sonat Bağcan, who is a musician and a body and breathing instructor.

Head of Hacettepe University Department of Child Health and Diseases, Prof. Dr. Elif Nur Özmert; Hacettepe University Child Development Department Faculty Member Prof. Dr. İsmihan Artan; Hacettepe University Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Diseases Department Faculty Member Assoc. Dr. Gülin Evinç, and Psychological Counselling and Guidance Specialist at Gülseren Özdemir Special Education School Ramazan Kuruçay participated as speakers at the event.
