We meet in Izmir for Inclusive Smart Cities: Izmir Hackathon for Innovation, Digitalisation and High-Technology Transformation

February 17, 2020

Priorities and roadmap will be addressed for inclusive smart cities on 6-7 March in Izmir under the project implemented jointly by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and T.R. Ministry of Industry and Technology with funding from the European Union (EU).

In the context of activities of Izmir Innovation Centre, we will explore innovative solutions for inclusive city transport, and discuss the steps to be taken for human- and environment-friendly cities of the future in the Hackathon to be hosted by UNDP, T.R. Ministry of Industry and Technology and Izmir Chamber of Commerce (IZTO), with open data support from Izmir Metro A.Ş. and contributions from Izmir Metropolitan Municipality.

Creating urban transport systems is a top priority in building inclusive, innovative, green smart cities today. The first solution that stands out is the rail transport for its high transport capacity, energy efficiency, environment-friendliness and accessibility.

Izmir Hackathon will draw participation from software developers, engineers, designers, technologists, startups, entrepreneurs who/which take pleasure in generating solutions to inform transport for Izmir, companies operating in the said area as well as students of relevant departments from universities in the form of 4 to 6-person teams. Our priority is to build multidisciplinary teams with complementing competencies.

At Izmir Transport Hackathon scheduled for 6-7 March 2020 at Izmir Coalgas Factory, Izmir Metro A.Ş. in charge of urban rail transport systems will make its data available to participants. We look forward to your suggestions for solutions to problem themes of rail transport and mobility that will highlight sustainability, inclusion, accessibility and social good. We aspire to further advance, through innovative approaches, the rail transport experience that resides at the heart of Izmir’s urban life and draw up a roadmap for the smart city of the future.

An exciting 24-hour-long marathon is awaiting us where everyone excited to generate innovative ideas may participate, and teams will be coached by leading mentors in their specialties. We are waiting for creative individuals and innovative solution ideas! See you there on 6-7 March!
