Training on Life Skills at Work, Career Development and Gender Responsive Companies and Institutions Starts!

The Training on Life Skills at Work, Career Development and Gender Responsive Companies and Institutions developed under the Turkey Resilience Project in Response to the Syria Crisis (TRP) aims to improve work life skills of trainees and minimize the challenges that workers may face at work due to lack of information on work culture and working regulations.

The training modules, implemented under UNDP’s Syria Crisis Response and Resilience Portfolio and developed under the Turkey Resilience Project in Response to the Syria Crisis with the funding of EU, have been made available for employees, entrepreneurs, job-seekers and business owners who want to receive training on life skills at work, career development and gender equality. The training developed in three different modules under the headings of Life Skills at Work, Career Development and Gender Responsive Companies and Institutions aims to enable employees to learn the work culture, employees’ rights and working regulations in Turkey to better and easier adapt to their working environment; job-seekers to better understand recruitment processes; companies and institutions to develop gender responsive recruitment policies and working environment to encourage women to participate in labour force.

At the end of this program, it is expected that the participants will learn about their rights and working regulations as employees while obtaining information on the work life and culture in Turkey. In addition, the training program aims to support business owners and employers to provide basic orientation training on the work life and culture with the said training modules for their refugee and Turkish employees or their new personnel and to take action for enabling women employees to participate in the labour market and ensuring their permanence in the working life with the module of Gender Responsive Companies and Institutions.

The module of Life Skills at Work covers cultural differences affecting work life, effective communication at work, basic human risks, basic labour law, reference information on work life, advantages of working under legal conditions, labour contract, work permit and insurance concepts, employees’ rights and obligations according to the Turkish Labour Law, discrimination and harassment at work, equality principles, basic concepts on occupational safety and health, current incentives for employment in Turkey. The module of Career Development contains such topics as tips for writing a good CV, channels available for job search and open positions in Turkey, what to do during the job search process, basic principles of a job interview, how to start own business. The module of Gender Responsive Companies and Institutions addresses gender equality at work, legal basis of the obligation of equality and women-friendly policies for companies and institutions, and zero tolerance for violence against women at work.

In the training available in Turkish, Arabic and English, participants are entitled to receive a certificate of completion issued in their own names after completing the subjects under each module and passing the subject evaluation examination.

Providing the opportunity to teach all lessons in an online environment through current computer technologies as completely independent of time and place, UNDP Turkey minimizes the negative impacts of COVID-19 on training and skills development processes while providing displaced persons and local community members opportunities for continuous skills development with online and blended learning methods and thus increasing their resilience to the current and future crises.
