Sustainable Living Film Days to be held in Çanakkale and Balıkesir on May 6-9

Sustainable Living Film Days (SLFD) - Çanakkale and Balıkesir will meet the audience online at Surdurulebiliryasam.net on May 6-9

Sustainable Living Film Days, supported by Movies that Matter Foundation and UNDP Turkey, continues with Çanakkale and Balıkesir organizations on May 6-9. 12 short and feature documentaries from the official selection of Sustainable Living Film Festival will be presented online at Surdurulebiliryasam.net. It is organized by Kazdağı Association for the Preservation of Natural and Cultural Resources which is advocating for ecological rights in the Kazdağları region and on a national scale since 2012, the Environment Club at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (ÇOMÜ) which is founded to raise awareness about environmental problems in the Çanakkale region, in the country and worldwide and Sustainable Development Goals and Local Governments Association which is founded with the purpose of building habitable cities, creating a local climate and environment movement and adapting SDGs in the local scale with the motto "Life is local, solution is local”.  

 

Programme

The online programme of the SLFD is aimed to show the system interactions and root causes of many human rights violations from a sustainability perspective and share examples of how solution oriented and passionate people create positive impact. The event will host guest speakers online to talk after the film sessions. Süheyla Doğan (Kazdağı Association for the Preservation of Natural and Cultural Resources), Ferzan Aktaş (Kazdağları Kardeşliği), İlayda Çamlı, Mahir Ilgaz (350 Turkey), Oral Kaya (Troya Environmental Association) Çanakkale Medical Chamber President Dr. Güleda Erensoy, Prof. Dr. Coşkun Bakar, Şölen Kipöz, Sevinç Özkaya, Meryem Saraç, Mustafa Birol (Sustainable Development Goals and Local Governments Association), Selver Özözen Kahraman (ÇOMÜ), Ali Gizer (GT Alliance UK, sustainability consultant), Buket Atlı (Right to Clean Air Platform) and Özlem Katısöz (CAN-Europe) will hold conversations with the audience.  

SLFD selection

The selected documentaries from the official selections of the Sustainable Living Film Festival are covering a wide range of topics in relation to human rights, such as basic health services and health as a human right, child slavery and child labour, supply chain responsibility in food and textile sectors, war, conflict and justice, climate change, right to water and right to ecological food. The films are carefully selected which have a holistic and systemic view showing the interdependencies between social, ecological and economical problems and include creative solutions by change makers and social entrepreneurs about the problems covered in the films.

There will be an additional online film screening and talk on May 10: “The Town of Thermal Power Plants (17’)”, which is a short documentary supported by Kazdağı Association for the Preservation of Natural and Cultural Resources.

Students, teachers, people from local NGOs, private and public organizations such as local businesses, municipal and other public authorities are all welcome to attend the event. Registering to the website Surdurulebiliryasam.net by the “Takipçi" button and to the sessions at the event page is necessary. All screenings are free of charge.
