UNDP Turkey Provides Syrian SMEs with Covid-19 Support with the Government of Japan Funding

As the situation for private sector has been getting worse with the rising number of Covid-19 cases and the resulting measures to prevent the dissemination of the disease through lockdown and place closures, various businesses have been affected adversely from this process. Syrian owned enterprises are among the most affected, particularly the ones which are small and medium sized and already in need of support to establish sustainable futures.

Emergency Support to Syrian SME’s Project is being implemented as part of the Covid-19 Resilience and Response Project conducted by UNDP. Funded by The Government of Japan, the project is intended to provide technical support and consultancy services to Syrian SMEs in Turkey to increase their capacities to overcome the current challenges imposed by the Covid-19 outbreak. The project which kicked off on 21st of September 2020 consists of five main components as follows: Digital Infrastructure Grants, Mini Recovery Grants, Digital Marketing Support, Online Trainings and Financial Consultancy.

Through these services, the project particularly aims to support Syrian SMEs in digitalization of their businesses to make their enterprises more sustainable and resilient in the face of Covid-19 by providing them with the necessary internet infrastructures and cloud-based internet management tools, digital marketing, capacity development and financial trainings, and grants to fulfil their budgetary needs.

The project which also considers gender equality in the selection of beneficiaries has already covered a long distance. So far, 10 people of whom 1 female and 9 males benefited from the financial consultancy; 61 people of whom 3 female and 58 males benefitted from digital infrastructure and 11 people of whom 6 females and 5 males benefitted from digital marketing support services provided in the scope of the project. With its 82 beneficiaries in total, the Emergency Support to Syrian SME’s Project is working to reach more Syrian SMEs. Stay tuned for the upcoming news about the project.
