Balıkesir, Çanakkale: Count down for gender equality has started campaign "For a more just world, stand by me"

Balıkesir, Çanakkale Regional Information and Experience Sharing Platform will be co-organized by Turkish Grand National Assembly Equal Opportunities Commission for Man and Woman and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), on 18 May 2012 in Balıkesir.

AnkaraWithin the context of the Joint Program on Fostering and Enabling Environment for Gender Equality in Turkey, being implemented under the partnership of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Turkey and Turkish Grand National Assembly (TGNA) Equal Opportunities Commission for Man and Woman, The campaign titled “Count Down for Gender Equality” under the theme of “For a More Just World, Stand by Me” was introduced through a press conference held in TGNA, on 25 November 2011, with the participation of Speaker of the Parliament Mr. Cemil Çiçek. In order to internalize the concept of gender equality at local and national level and raise awareness on this issue among public, Balıkesir Çanakkale Regional Information and Experience Sharing Platform will be organized on 18 May 2012, Friday in Balıkesir Basri Hotel.  

 “Count Down Gender Equality Campaign Balıkesir, Çanakkale Regional Information and Experience Sharing Platform” will be started on 18 May 2012 at 09:00 in Balıkesir Basri Hotel with the participation of Chairperson of TGNA Equal Opportunities Commission for Man and Woman, Azize Sibel Gönül, Member of Equal Opportunities Commission, Member of Parliaments, Balıkesie Governor Yılmaz Arslan, Balıkesir Municipality Mayor İsmail Ok, UNDP Democratic Governance Program Manager Dr Leyla Şen, South Marmara Development Agency, Civil Society Organization, Private Sector Representatives and academicians.

Information and Experience Sharing Platform will be organized within the context of the Joint Program on Fostering and Enabling Environment for Gender Equality in Turkey, being implemented under the partnership of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Turkey and Turkish Grand National Assembly (TGNA) Equal Opportunities Commission for Man and Woman.

Platform, which will contribute to the introduction of “For a More Just World, Stand by Me” theme Campaign through the strategy to be followed and activities to be carried out, is considered to be an important opportunity in terms providing a stage where the present situation, needs and activities carried out up-to-date on gender equality in Balıkesir, Çanakkale region will be discussed in presence of representatives from civil society organizations and all concerned institutions and organizations. In this context, the platform is planned to be composed of morning plenary session and afternoon discussion session.

Information and Experience Sharing Platforms will be carried out in 12 Sub Regions (NUTS I), in order to ensure the introduction of the campaign at both local and national level and raise awareness on gender equality among society and concerned institutions. In this context, the first Information and Experience  Sharing Platform was realized in January 2012, in İstanbul, in April 2012, in Bursa covering Eskişehir and Bilecik provinces and will be realized in Balıkesir covering Çanakkale and will be continued in May following Tokat (Çorum, Amasya, Samsun) Region.
