Turkey pushes the button for the post-Kyoto preparations
The kick-off meeting of the “Capacity Building for Climate Change Management in Turkey Project” was held on 24 March 2009 in Ankara. The aim of the meeting was to align stakeholders' understanding of project objectives and activities at the first phase of the project.
The overall objective of the project, led by Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF), with the support of State Planning Organization (SPO), Turkish Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association (TÜSİAD) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is to develop the capacity of Turkey to participate efficiently in the international climate change negotiations and join the flexible mechanisms of Kyoto through better knowledge of the Voluntary Carbon Markets.
The project is very important in formulating Turkey’s position in the expected International Post-Kyoto Treaty on Climate Change to be worked out in the upcoming Conference of the Parties (COP15) in Copenhagen in December 2009.
