UNDP Turkey supported POPs Destruction Capacity in İZAYDAŞ

Izmit Waste and Residue Treatment, Incineration and Recycling Co Inc. (İZAYDAŞ) is the first and one of the biggest hazardous waste incineration facility with 35.000 t/y capacity in Turkey. Within POPs Legacy Elimination and POPs Release Reduction Project implemented by UNDP and Ministry of Environement and Urbanization (MOEU), the facility was upgraded through increasing its pollution control and release reduction capacity for protecting human health and environment from the adverse effects of persistent organic pollutants (POPs). The performed upgrade will allow İZAYDAŞ to be working in internationally accepted limits as well as contribute Kocaeli people to have a cleaner air.

UNDP Turkey, as the implementing agency of the POPs Project, supported the facility to make the necessary investments with the total amount of 7.727.000 USD in a timely and effective manner and relasesing GEF contribution with the amount of 750.000 USD.
