Energy Efficient Appliances in Turkey Project starts

01 Nov 2010

The Kick-off Meeting of “Market Transformation of Energy Efficient Appliances in Turkey Project” will be held on 7 December 2010 in Ankara.

The project will be implemented by General Directorate of Electrical Power Survey and Development Administration (EIE) under the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Considering the raising trend in energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions in Turkey, the “Market Transformation of Energy Efficient Appliances in Turkey Project” is highlighted as one of the major efforts in reducing household energy consumption and fighting against climate change.

The project has a wide range of partners from government including the Ministry of Industry and Trade and from private sector including Turkish White Goods Manufacturer’s Association (TÜRKBESD) and Arçelik A.Ş.

The project addresses many different issues aimed at shifting towards more energy efficient household appliances, improving the capacity of Turkish public authorities (compliance checking and energy efficiency testing) for a better enforcement of applicable regulations, raising awareness of consumers and supplying chain to increase sales of appliances in higher energy class (A, A+, A++), developing new financial mechanisms to finance purchase of energy efficient appliances, and ensuring sustainability of project outcomes through learning, monitoring and adaptive feedback.

Thus, the project is expected to make a valuable contribution towards raising a nationwide awareness regarding the importance of energy efficiency and rational use of energy in residential buildings as part of global efforts made for fighting against climate change.
