Argande appears at Istanbul Fashion Week
The 2010-2011 fall-winter collection of Argande will be exhibited in the Istanbul Fashion Week’ 10 between February 3-6. Argande brand has been introduced under the auspices of Project “Innovations for Women’s Empowerment in the GAP Region”; a collaborative venture between the United Nations Development Programme and Southeastern Anatolia Regional Development Administration with support of fashion designers and MUDO and financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
Argande is the beautiful goddess of the Kingdom of Commagene, who in the ancient times, ruled the territory of Mesopotamia. Her name has been resuscitated today by f the Southeastern women of Turkey.
“Innovations for Women’s Empowerment in the GAP Region ” gathers its products under the ARGANDE brand in a joint project launched May 2008 by the GAP Regional Development Administration and the UNDP with financing from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency to socially and economically empower women. The project supports women’s participation in labour markets, re-branding of Southeast Anatolia, and creation of innovative sales and marketing opportunities. Through the creation of the Argande collection, around 100 women have been employed in ateliers established in Batman and Mardin.
The products are manufactured by women of Southeast and created under the coordination of Hatice Gökçe with leading fashion designers such as Alex Akimoğlu, Hakan Yıldırım, Hatice Gökçe, Banu Bora, Rojin Aslı Polat, Mehtap Elaidi, Ezra-Tuba Çetin, Özgur Masur, Gamze Saraçoğlu, Aida Bihter Pekin, Rana Canok, Berna Canok, Simay Bülbül, Günseli Türkay, and Zeynep Tosun. MUDO, one of Turkey’s biggest and most innovative retail companies, volunteered its support in marketing the brand.
In Istanbul Fashion Week which will take place at Santral Istanbul between February 3 -6, 2010-2011 Fall-Winter collection of Argande will meet fashion fans in a show undertaken by Artistic Director and Choreographer Bilge Tuğsuz along with famous models such as Ahu Yağtu, Sema Şimşek, Ceylan Saner and Selda Aksoy. The show will be photographed by Bavbek Gencer who previously took image photographs of Argande collection. Like at the shootings for the collection, make-up at IFW fashion show will be put on by make-up artist Derya Ergün with sponsorship of MAC.
With the spirit of social responsibility, several renowned professionals volunteered their support to the brand: Demir Tasarım for printed and visual materials; Batman ÇATOM and Mardin Ömerli ÇATOM for providing production workshops; Istanbul Ready-to-Wear and Apparel Exporters' Association on training, and Aras Cargo on logistics. During the shootings of Argande, Bilge Tuğsuz contributed to the brand styling and artistic work, and finally, the face of the brand was Ahu Yağtu.
Combining Anatolian motifs and local fabrics with modern designs, Argande collection is accessible in 17 MUDO elite stores in 7 provinces with sales revenues fully transferred to the women producers of the Argande brand in Southeast Anatolia.
