Conference on Competition Law and its Place in a Globalized World

Professor Eleanor Fox of the School of Law at the New York University, gave a speech on 'The Importance of Competition Law and its Place in a Globalized World' on 11 November 2005, at Bilkent University in Ankara.

The conference, co-organized by the UNDP and the Turkish Competition Authority was about antitrust laws, the acceptance and implementation of these laws by governments and multi-national companies, the effects of it on the open world market and the impact of these on poverty within the context of globalization.

Fox told how the economic competitive advantage struggles could lead to a "Race to the bottom" where the poor bear the brunt. She mentioned the international efforts regarding the implementation of the anti-trust rules by OECD, UNCTAD, WTO and ICN (International Competition Network) and the challenges developing and transitional countries face in this regard.
