    Small Investments Fund Projects

    “Small Investments Fund” (SIF) project consists of 8 small-scale sub-projects, all of which are designed to bring economic, social and/or cultural benefits to the local communities, and at the same time protect and preserve the natural environment, bio-diversity and sustainable energy recources of the area covering Rize, Artvin, Trabzon, Ardahan, Kars, Erzurum, Gümüşhane, Bayburt, Erzincan, Sivas, Kayseri, Kahramanmaraş, Adana, Osmaniye and Hatay provinces.

    Local pioneers of sustainable development

    23 local community projects from 18 different provinces of Turkey were chosen as worthy of receiving financial support from the ‘Grants Programme’, implemented within the framework of the “Integration of Sustainable Development into Sectoral Policies” project, which is being conducted by UNDP. The total budget allocated to the winning projects, funded by the European Union, is 913,000 Euros.

    Instead of waiting for the governmental authorities to come and fix the problems in their village, Karaurgan folks decided to go to the government themselves and ask for service. And in doing this, they assumed self responsibility. Each and every household in the village gave a hand in this common cause and helped build a sanitary sewerage system for their community.

    "Environment reforms must accelerate"

    Egypt, Peru, Vietnam and Mongolia are among a number of countries taking the lead in putting the environment at the heart of their plans to cut poverty by 2015, according to a new report launched by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). However, unless more governments take more ambitious steps to protect the natural world, overall development goals will be jeopardized, stressed the Report.
